Nobody's Coming to Save You

Nobody's coming to save you

I'm going to say the thing nobody in your life has the guts to say to your face: nobody is coming to save you.

Not the judge. Not the counselor with the clipboard. Not your mother crying at the kitchen table, not your girl threatening to leave for the eleventh time, not the buddy who swears he's got a job lined up for you. None of them are walking through that door with your rescue in their hands.

I know, because I waited. I sat in my own wreckage for years waiting on somebody โ€” anybody โ€” to care enough to pull me out. And here's the part that stings: people did care. They cared themselves sick over me. It didn't matter. You cannot be rescued by people who love you if you won't move your own feet.

The cavalry isn't real. There is no moment coming where it suddenly gets easy, where the cravings politely leave, where life hands you a clean slate with a bow on it. The only rescue that ever worked for me was the day I looked in the mirror and told the man staring back: you're the one. You're the rescue and you're the emergency. Pick one.

That's not a motivational poster. That's arithmetic. Every day you wait on somebody else, the hole gets deeper and the shovel gets heavier. Every day you move โ€” one meeting, one phone call, one honest conversation with yourself โ€” the hole gets shallower.

So here's your assignment, and it's the only one that matters today: stop waiting. Do the one thing you've been putting off. Call the sponsor. Walk into the meeting. Flush the stash. Tell the truth to somebody who needs to hear it. Then do it again tomorrow.

The person in the mirror has been waiting on you a long time. Don't make him wait another day.
